Microsoft’s Bing Maps Silverlight version is growing up fast, so much so that Microsoft is taking it out of beta, the Redmond outfit announced this week.
Not everyone will see the changes right away, and instead, Microsoft is planning a slow rollout. Within a few weeks, everyone in the U.S. should see the Silverlight maps by default. In the meantime, the AJAX site will still work, and users will be able to toggle between the two versions.
This is a pretty big step for Bing, one which some would argue puts the search decision engine ahead of Google in the maps arena. Because it’s powered by Silverlight, it’s a more robust experience than Google Maps, allowing users to seamlessly switch between maps, satellite images, and detailed aerial photos. But is it a Google Maps killer?
Not quite. Google Maps still has some features that Bing doesn’t, like better local searches with Place Pages. And while Silverlight is what gives Bing Maps an edge, it also means installing a plug-in that you might not have otherwise wanted.

Im assuming we are trying to spell “Deployment” ?
Any mapping software Microsoft attempts to create will fail in comparison to google maps, earth, and garmin mapsource (which can download points from google maps. Why doesn’t Microsoft just stick with making their own version of office (without stealing code) and windows. They created Internet Explorer as a browser, but all it has really lived up to is becoming a backdoor for hackers in China to get at human rights activists, political rivals, and our weapons contractor’s servers. Now they claim they’re improving Windows Mobile. Oh joy! Now even our cell phones can have stolen code, a secret unknown (probably even to Microsoft) backdoor for hackers, and crash just as much as Vista and Windows Me.
Silverlight.Ugh. Get over it Microsoft, you missed the boat and the dinghy you are trying to catch up in just isn’t going to make it.
Googlemaps still rules the market share and probably always will. SiteSeer3D is a neat little program in it’s infancy that is at least offering something a little new by allowing Real Estate based searches in 3D…
Props to the Change in grammar~ That aside, I’m not gonna be favoring Microsoft any time soon, they have some wonderful programs, and, I’m not gonna contest that, and even Bing makes searching easier, but after all these years, Google has yet to Fail me. In the long run Bing is a time waster, relevant results are often Buried in miles of pointless trash. don’t try to improve on something that has no problems just cause you are Jealous Microsoft! I’m not installing anything to be able to see what I can see instantly with Google
Grammar is a many good.
